What’s new

Richard Lloyd raised the question of where to hold the next CI World Congress.

We’ve got reports on some of Monday’s fringe events. Georgina has given us the first of two accounts of the day-long campaigning event on advocacy for consumers’ intellectual property rights and Candice has given her impressions of the food marketing fringe event. There’s also a brief account of the event promoting a World Consumers’ Energy Charter.

Georgina tracked down some of the many articles in the global media associated with Congress events.

And there’s a preview of Wednesday’s session on the ethics of drug marketing.

The vodcast team (Ella, Suzy and Tracy) have created six short videos including interviews with Congress speakers and delegates and an item about the food marketing media event held Monday morning. These videos and much more are available on the CHOICE Congress web report created by Katie.

I’ve just left a long comment on the Choice website essentially saying that most Australians still haven’t decided to eat healthier foods.

I am a small food manufacturer who, for the last 12 years, has been making wholegrain burgers which I now call, ‘Transitional Food’ that fits between Traditional Food and Vegetarian Food.

I’ve been an approved NSW School Canteen Association suppier for the last two years without much success. Canteens are a business, basically.

Most people only consider eating healthier foods when they have a medical problem or one arises in a family member or friend. This is based on my experience at running a health food shop for 19 years. My burgers use ingredients ‘ordinary’ people recognise – wholegrains (as in bread) fresh vegetables (as in salads), sunflower seeds (as in a garnish) plus herbs and spices.

I could tell you about my experiences with Woolworths and Coles, but that’s another story.
