Australian sponsors contribute more than money
Agencies have contributed much besides simply money. Linda Burney, Minister for Consumer Affairs in NSW, gave the Congress a stimulating welcome speech. She was followed by Chris Pearce, Parliamentary Secretary to the Australian Treasurer, who identified several areas where the Australian government is working internationally to protect consumers.
In addition to the Commonwealth government and the NSW government, the consumer affairs agencies from Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, Northern Territory and the ACT are also key sponsors; and many have a range of material on display at the Congress. Indeed, several Victorian publications have been so popular with delegates that additional material is being couriered in.
Chris Pearce, Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer and David Cousins, Commissioner for Conumer Affairs in Victoria, talk about their perspectives on key issues for consumers and consumer organisations.
